Boys in 1st through 3rd grade wear the blue uniform, while 4th and 5th grades typically wear green and tan (but the blue one is fine, too). If you know someone who used to be in Scouts and no longer needs the uniform, or if you can find a used one online, you're welcome to purchase via that route. Definitely very cost effective! If you prefer a new uniform, you can order online from the Scout Store (
http://www.scoutstuff.org/) or you can visit the Atlanta store at 1800 Circle 75 Pkwy SE, Atlanta 30339. The folks there are very helpful in pulling together everything you need.
Field / Class A uniform
The "Field" (also called Class A) uniform consists of a:
- Cub Scout button-down shirt
- Neckerchief (color based on the den / grade)
- Slide (insignia based on the den / grade) - these come off easily, so some people use something in addition (like a rubberband?) to keep them in place
- Hat (color and pattern based on the den / grade)
- Cub Scout shorts / pants (we recommend the "switchback" pants...they come as pants but zip off into shorts)
- Belt
- Socks (optional)
Activity / Class B uniform
The "Activity" (also called Class B) uniform consists of a:
- Pack t-shirt (provided by the Pack)
- Shorts / pants
Handbook
- And not a uniform item, but you'll definitely need the handbook for the den / grade level. The Pack provides this for the boys. If you haven't received one yet, please be sure to let us know.
There is a section in each of the handbooks regarding the uniform, and the inside back cover shows the placement of each of the basic patches. Some of the patches come pre-sewn on the shirts; others need to be added (listed below). Patches can either be sewn or ironed on.
All other badges, pins, etc. are provided by the Pack, based upon the Scouts' achievements.
